Preventive Exam

At Crescent Dental Associates we believe the cornerstone to proper dental care begins with a thorough and complete dental exam.  This is typically your first appointment at our office.  The exam begins with a thorough medical history to determine if any medications or medical conditions you are being treated for will impact your oral health.

Dental radiographs (x-rays) are taken in order to provide your dentist with the ability to properly diagnose any disease or pathology at cannot be clinically detected.  The comprehensive oral evaluation also includes a thorough periodontal (gum) exam, oral cancer screening, and TMJ evaluation.  We will also examine your occlusion or “bite” to check for any bite problems or evidence of teeth grinding.  Diagnostics impressions, models, and photographs may also be taken to aid in diagnosis.  Following the exam, your dentist will review his findings with you one-on-one, and explain your treatment options so you can decide together on the best way to improve and maintain optimal oral health.

Crown and Bridge

Sometimes the breakdown of teeth due to decay, fracture, or wear is too severe to be replaced with traditional fillings.  In such cases, crowns are recommended to restore the tooth to proper form and function and protect it from further damage.  For example, teeth that require root canals often require crowns to protect the tooth from fracture.

Fixed partial dentures, often referred to as bridges, are restorations that are used to replace missing teeth.  These restorations are cemented in place acting much like natural teeth and are not removed by the patient.  Fixed partial dentures (bridges) are often a more desirable alternative to a removable restoration or implant therapy when replacing missing teeth

Implant Therapy

Implants are quickly becoming the most popular and effective way to restore missing teeth.  At Crescent Dental Associates, we partner with a team of specialists and are well equipped to handle implant cases from simple to complex.  Implants can be used not only to replace a single missing tooth, but also to replace several teeth.

Today, use of implants is an effective and often more predictable way to support and secure longer span prostheses such as dentures, partial dentures and fixed bridges.  Unlike conventional fixed bridges, implants do not require neighboring teeth to be cut down or harmed.

Veneer

Veneers are a thin laminate material, usually made of porcelain, which are used to improve the appearance of teeth.  Veneers can be used to correct problems of tooth shape, wear, fracture and discoloration (staining).  Veneers are an excellent way to greatly improve your smile.

The placement of veneers requires a small amount of tooth to be removed in order to make room for the veneer.  An impression and mold is then taken of the prepared teeth and sent to a laboratory for fabrication.  At Crescent Dental Associates, we utilize the most talented laboratory technicians from across the United States to provide you the most esthetic and natural looking smile.

Composites (Tooth Colored Restorations)

A “filling” is probably the most common and well known service that dentists provide.  A restoration or “filling” is used to replace missing tooth structure that has been lost to decay or fracture.

With today’s materials, we are able to provide restorations that mimic natural tooth structure both in appearance and function. When necessary, we are also able to replace older silver fillings that you may find unsightly due to their dark appearance with more natural looking white fillings.

Beyond improved esthetics, white fillings also require less natural tooth to be removed when being placed compared to traditional amalgam restorations.  Since less natural tooth has to be removed, white fillings allow for more conservative treatment which over time decreases the chance of further breakdown of teeth due to fracture.

Whitening

Your teeth will darken over time. Changes in the color of your teeth can be caused by such factors as the food and beverages consumed (like coffee, tea and soda).  Other known factors for discoloration may include childhood medications or illnesses, tobacco use or improper oral hygiene.  We can provide a variety of options for whitening your smile.

Tooth whitening services are growing in popularity, and it’s one of the most requested services offered by our practice.  Everyone sees the growing consumer market focused on whiter teeth. There are over-the-counter products that can help.

There are others that are not a wise decision. We pride ourselves on helping our patients learn about the various approaches.  What we have discovered is that whitening gives most patients the most cost effective method for improving the aesthetics of their teeth.  And cosmetic enhancement often makes the biggest difference in how some patients feel about themselves.

We are trained to discuss and deliver high-end whitening when appropriate.  Our goal is to meet the needs of every patient, and every patient’s needs are different.  The method used by our practice is a gentle hydrogen-peroxide gel-activated solution and, in most cases, will whiten your entire smile. Call us today for a whitening evaluation.

Prosthetic Reconstruction

Crescent Dental Associates is well equipped to handle the most complex of cases.  Replacement or treatment of several or all of a patient’s teeth is known as “prosthetic reconstruction” or “full-mouth rehabilitation.”

Removable Prosthetics

Regular dental examinations are still important for the denture wearer so that the oral tissues can be checked for disease or change.

Digital Radiographs (X-Rays):

We utilize advanced digital radiographs, providing high-resolution imaging with significantly reduced radiation exposure, and our state-of-the-art intra-oral cameras allow for detailed, real-time visualization of oral health, ensuring precise diagnostics and personalized treatment plans. By integrating these leading-edge technologies, we deliver exceptional care and maintain our position as a leader in dental excellence.

We offer one of the latest technological advances in dentistry with digital radiography (X-rays). A sensor is placed in the mouth, and a computer generates an image in less than 30 seconds as opposed to the general 4-6 minute wait time for images taken on dental film. These X-rays can also be enhanced on the computer and enlarged. The patient can more easily see the image on a monitor, which allows for better communication between the doctors and our patients.

Many patients have commented on how these images have helped them see and understand their situation better. There are many guidelines that we follow to assure your safety while still allowing us to make proper diagnoses. Radiographs allow us to see everything we cannot see with our own eyes. Radiographs enable us to detect cavities between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs.
Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health. Exposure time for dental radiographs is extremely minimal. Digital imaging allows us to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to specialists or insurance companies.

Digital Office:

As a largely paperless office, we understand how busy you are and we value your time. We encourage as much electronic communication as possible, whether that is an email to remind you of your appointment, leaving a message on your mobile phone or communicating with your insurance company online. Records of your care are also in electronic form, making for rapid and accurate access.  This paperless environment also allows us to streamline your care and quickly communicate with specialists.

Intra-oral Camera:

An intraoral camera is a very small camera that fits in your mouth. The intraoral camera allows our practice to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums. These clear, defined, enlarged images allow us to see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations. This enhances our ability to make an accurate and potentially faster diagnosis with less chair-time for you.
Intraoral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer, and provide a permanent record of conditions and treatments. These images can be printed for you, other specialists, the dental lab and insurance companies.
